Appalachian Brewing Company
Noblest - Apple Crisp Sour
Fruited Sour · 5.1% ABV · ★ Rating 9/10
This is fantastic. It’s not overly sour, you get the apple, and there’s a nutty caramel aftertaste. This will definitely be in my refrigerator every fall season.
You’re my Boy Blue
Fruited Sour · 4.3% ABV · ★ Rating 6.5/10
This one isn’t sour and doesn’t taste like blueberry, but it does taste like cotton candy. It’s got a nice color too!
Artillery Brewing
The Headless Horseman of Canton
Pumpkin · 6.2% ABV · ★ Rating 7.5/10
Very smooth. You get the pumpkin and those nice fall spices.
Artisanal Brew Works
Warheads Extreme Sour - Strawberry/Grape Sour Ale
Fruited Sour · 5.0% ABV · ★ Rating 8/10
This tastes a lot like grape soda. It’s really good, but I would rate it higher if it was more sour to match the candy like their other line of Warheads do. So far, I haven’t had a bad Warheads beer by Artisanal.
B
Brewery Ommegang
All Hallows Treat - Imperial Chocolate Peanut Butter Stout
Stout · 7.8% ABV · ★ Rating 6/10
This is advertised as having aromas and flavors of dark chocolate, creamy peanut butter, and a soft vanilla finish swirl with a smooth body and medium mouthfeel. I disagree completely, This tastes like a coffee stout. I didn’t sense and chocolate, peanut butter, or vanilla.
D
Dogfish Head Craft Brewery
Punkin Ale
Brown Ale · 7.0% ABV · ★ Rating 6/10
Falls a little flat, literally. Hint of pumpkin, fairly smooth, but subpar compared to other pumpkin beers.
Duclaw Brewing Co.
Sweet Baby Pumpkin
Porter · 6.2% ABV · ★ Rating 5/10
Just a porter, no pumpkin, no spice, no latte.
E
Elysian Brewing Company
Night Owl
Pumpkin Ale · 6.7% ABV · ★ Rating 8/10
Extremely smooth, doesn’t have a lot of pumpkin flavor, but it has enough. You gotta be careful with this one with how smooth it is or you’ll be on the floor.
Evil Genius Beer Company
A Little Stitious Watermelon Tart Ale
Fruited Sour · 5.0% ABV · ★ Rating 9/10
Wow! Evil Genius really nailed this one. This tastes exactly like Warheads watermelon candy. It’s definitely sour, but not overwhelming. I think if it was just a bit more sour, it would be perfect.
Trick or Treat Chocolate Pumpkin Porter
Porter · 7.8% ABV · ★ Rating 3/10
Overly bitter with very little flavor. I couldn't pick up any pumpkin at all, and there's maybe a hint of chocolate, but it tastes more like generic dark chocolate from the dollar store. Overall, pretty disappointing.
F
Fat Head’s Brewery
Spooky Tooth
Imperial Ale · 8.0% ABV · ★ Rating 3/10
This literally doesn’t taste like anything.
Fegley’s Brew Works
Devious Imperial Pumpkin
Imperial Pumpkin Ale · 9.0% ABV · ★ Rating 9/10
Night and day when comparing to its cousin beer, the Insidious. This has it all, high abv, smooth, pumpkin, spices. Love it.
Insidious x Devious
Imperial Pumpkin Stout · 9.0% ABV · ★ Rating 6/10
I’m not sure how I really feel about this one. You get the spices and a hint of bourbon, but no pumpkin. Not bad, but I wish everyone would stop advertising as pumpkin beer when there isn’t even a hint of it. Overall, not terrible, but I wouldn’t get it again.
Funk Brewing
Cookie Monster
Golden Stout · 6.5% ABV · ★ Rating 8.5/10
This one is really great and makes a wonderful desert beer. Sometimes these aren’t as advertised, but this really does taste like a cookie.
I
Icarus Brewing Co.
Amber Lantern
Amber Lager · 6.5% ABV · ★ Rating 7/10
If Yeungling did a pumpkin beer, it might taste like this. Smooth pumpkin lager with fall spices.
L
Lancaster Brewing Co.
Baked Pumpkin Ale
Pumpkin Ale · 7.5% ABV · ★ Rating 5/10
Don’t judge a beer by its label. Lancaster is home to Pennsylvania Dutch and Amish communities, and the pies there are out of this world, so I had high hopes for this one. Unfortunately, it’s overly bitter with barely any pumpkin flavor. I do like that it is on the high ABV side though.
Lexington Brewing & Distilling Co.
Kentucky Pumpkin Barrel Ale
Pumpkin Ale · 10% ABV · ★ Rating 9.5/10
This is a really solid pumpkin ale with a nice balance of pumpkin, spice, and barrel flavor without being too much. This will definitely be in my refrigerator every fall season. A lot of their other flavored beers fall short, but this one is absolutely fantastic!
N
Barrel Aged Werewolf
Imperial Stout · 10.1% ABV · ★ Rating 7/10
This one tastes like bourbon more than beer, it’ll put hair on your chest for sure. Pretty sweet, you definitely get vanilla, but no pumpkin. This should be relabeled and put out as a Christmas beer.
New Trail Brewing Co.
Werewolf
Imperial Stout · 8.6% ABV · ★ Rating 7/10
A little thick and very dark. Not too bitter and you definitely get the vanilla after taste. I’m not really getting any pumpkin out of it, maybe more of a hint of cinnamon, but even that is very mild.
P
Prairie Artisan Ales
Pumpkin Kerfuffle
Imperial Sour · 8.2% ABV · ★ Rating 9/10
Wow! A really great pumpkin sour beer, never had one until now. It’s pretty sour and has a really great pumpkin flavor. I never thought this would mix, but this is outstanding! It almost tastes like a pumpkin apple cider.
S
Samuel Adams
Jack-O
Pumpkin Ale · 4.4% ABV · ★ Rating 9/10
Tastes like pumpkin pie, this is fantastic.
Smuttynose Brewing Co.
Pumpkin Ale
Pumpkin Ale · 5.9% ABV · ★ Rating 6/10
This is smooth, but lacking any flavor. Barely any pumpkin or any spices.
Southern Tier Brewing Company
Chestnut Praline
Imperial Ale · 8.6% ABV · ★ Rating 8.5/10
This is really good. It reminds me of a bourbon ale, but a little more mild with a powerful chestnut aftertaste. This is nice to drink in a warm house during the winter season. It honestly doesn’t have to be a warm house because drinking a couple of these will make you warm.
Pumqueen
Cider · 8.6% ABV · ★ Rating 7.5/10
I get no pumpkin out of this, it does taste like apple cider though. There’s an unusual amount of floaters in this cider, but I looked it up and it sounds like it is normal.
Braaaiins!
Pumpkin Ale · 8.5% ABV · ★ Rating 5/10
I remember having this one before and not being very impressed, and unfortunately, it hasn't gotten much better. The flavor is pretty underwhelming and doesn't have the fall spice or sweetness I was hoping for. Overall, it just doesn't do much for me. I don’t understand how they can call it a pumpkin ale when it doesn’t even remotely taste like pumpkin.
Spring House Brewing Company
Susquehanna Brewing Company
Pumpkin Ale
Pumpkin Ale · 5.2% ABV · ★ Rating 7.5/10
Susquehanna Brewing Company is my favorite right now. It seems like I like almost every beer they offer and the pumpkin ale is no exception. It’s smooth and you get a mild pumpkin flavor going down. The ABV is a bit low, but this is probably one of the only pumpkin beers I could drink more than one of in a sitting.
Razz the Roof
Fruit Ale · 4.2% ABV · ★ Rating 8/10
Another great one from Susquehanna Brewing Co. This tastes just like raspberry JELL-O and if you can get it on tap, it’s even better.
Swingin’ Pineapple Upside Down Cake Imperial Shandy
Imperial Shandy · 8.5% ABV · ★ Rating 4/10
One of the few brews from Susquehanna that I don’t really care for. This one doesn’t taste like what is advertised. It tastes like really sweet cream soda and the only thing that saves it is the 8.5% ABV.
T
Tröegs Independent Brewing
Master of Pumpkins
Pumpkin Ale · 7.5% ABV · ★ Rating 5/10
On the lighter side, but doesn’t have a lot of flavor. There’s a hint of pumpkin, but it tastes flat.
W
Wallenpaupack Brewing Co.
Pumpkin Ale
Pumpkin Ale · 6.8% ABV · ★ Rating 7/10
This is a nice, smooth pumpkin ale with plenty of pumpkin flavor. It's very pumpkin-forward, although the flavor tastes just slightly artificial compared to some other pumpkin ales I've tried.
Imperial Pumpkin Ale
Imperial Ale · 8.0% ABV · ★ Rating 8.5/10
This is way better than the stout seen below, you actually get pumpkin in this one. There’s a nice mix of other fall spices in the mix and it aligns with Southern Tiers Pumpking, which is a little better imo.
Weyerbacher Brewing Company
Imperial Pumpkin Stout
Stout · 9.0% ABV · ★ Rating 5.5/10
Thick, heavy stout with no pumpkin, mainly dark chocolate is what I got out of it.
