Mandy’s Soft Pretzels - N Ext 11th St 119; 8th St: 17

vs.

Lapp’s Soft Pretzels - 12th Street N: 38 & 42; F Ave W: 42

I won’t leave you all with suspense. LAPP’S WINS!!!

Lapp’s holds itself together better after being bagged and is more structurally sound. All of their pretzels also won overall in regards to flavor; however Mandy’s cinnamon sugar pretzel has a slight edge with more cinnamon sugary deliciousness. For the cinnamon sugar specifically, it’s gonna come down to preference as Lapp’s was more mild and won’t require a visit to the dentist.

The other two I compared were the garlic and sour cream & onion. Neither held together the garlic after being bagged up for an hour, it all melted into the pretzel and neither had a lot of flavor, but the sour cream & onion was far better from Lapps.

Kolar Concessions - E Ave W: 55 / 59

Pumpkin Waffles 9.5/10

These are a yearly must. The older folks running this stand have been there since I can remember. They’re not too sweet and they have the perfect texture.

Bowman’s Fries - 3rd Street: D; A Ave W:14

Fries: 10/10

I’ve been getting these every years since I’ve been a kid. These are the best plain fries you will have at the fair.

Redline BBQ - 11th St: 41

Brisket Sammie: 7.5/10

Peach Tea: 2/10

I have heard a lot about this stand and specifically the burnt ends being wonderful and I’ll have to give those a try. This time I got the brisket and it was pretty good, but the peach tea was not. It was very sugary, had a hint of peach, but also a hint of DayQuil. Maybe it was just me, but I was not a fan of the tea.

Unicorn Concessions - next to the free stage and also at D Ave W #104

Strawberry Shortcake: 9.5/10

I know I just posted this yesterday, but it’s so good that I get one almost every visit.

Laubach Concessions - Right next to the grand stand

Chili: 5/10

Their mountain fries are out of this world and are probably the best fries with topping at the fair; however the chili is lacking with not much flavor. It’s just missing something and it wouldn’t take much to bring this rating up. Maybe a little more salt, some cayenne, maybe a few other spices.

Loaded Tenders & Tots - 10th St. & C Ave.

Tots with cheese and bacon: 6.5/10

They were warm and had a good crunch, but they would have been better if they were a little warmer.

Bubba Tater - Near gate 3 over by the petting zoo

Foot Long Taco Dog: 7.5/10

This sucker was huge and very filling. It came out hot and was packed with flavor. It is a bit messy though.
