Oliran Japanese Hibachi Steakhouse, Bloomsburg, PA.

Oliran has been around for many years and I believe it has changed hands many times. It has progressively gone down hill over the years, to the point where I won’t go back. This is going to be a bit of a rant, because this place is now terrible and we have had so many family meals and birthday parties here, which can’t happen anymore unfortunately.

Most Hibachi restaurants are about the same with maybe a few unique dishes. I feel like there’s a formula and if they stick to it, it’s on overall good experience. Oliran definitely didn’t stick to the formula,

We’ve had the same waitress twice now, which was probably the biggest problem. Running around and almost throwing the food on the table, like she just drank a case of Red Bull and never comes back to check on you. The biggest problem is that gratuity is included, so you get shit service.

My mother in law and I both got a hot tea and it was Luke warm. We asked if we could have them throw it in the microwave at least (I know…gross). The waitress got snippy and said she would have to make a new pot.

I got the crispy duck, and only ate about a third of it, it was just gross. They put some shitty lettuce underneath it that was soaked in water and some microwavable peas and carrots. I finished my meal about 15 minutes before the hibachi chef came out, which was about 75 minutes after we arrived. The hibachi chef was great as usual, but even the food from the grill wasn’t as good as it once was. The tables are sticky and overall the staff are just unpleasant college kids.

It’s a little out of the way, but I think we will be going to Ichiban in Williamsport, PA. moving forward.

THE RATINGS:

  • Crispy Duck: 3/10

  • Sushi (in general): 7/10

  • Steak Hibachi: 5.5/10
